Attach shims
and inserts to the slotting cutter. Mount cutter to arbor and fasten
it to bench center. The set up procedure is started by sliding one
insert to hub height, approximately 1 mm from body face, and clamping
it. Place tip of dial indicator on the tip of the clamped insert.
Set dial indicator to zero. The remaining inserts are then set to
match the position of the first, and their position is controlled
through indicator reading. Clamp another shim and insert, and watch
the reading. If the indicator reading changes during clamping, the
insert should be adjusted to correct position before clamping once
again.
Once all inserts of the face have been clamped, remove the cutter
from arbor and place on granite (or cast iron) surface plate. All
set insert tips should touch the surface plate evenly.
Using gage blocks, set dial indicator to match the desired width of
slotting cutter. Slide any insert from one face of cutter to desired
width (control the procedure through indicator reading). Once the
insert is set and clamped, place the cutter on the arbor and set up
the remaining inserts by repeating these procedures.
Slotting cutter 6-910 is constructed in such a way as to facilitate
varying cutter width within a 1.5 mm range (0.059") When the need
to change the inserts or their cutting edges arises, loosen the locking
screw and clamp the new element into place. There is no need to loosen
the locking screw of the shim. |
